Shutdown?! No way!
Elliot went to his first football game last week. It was Logan’s high school homecoming. Elliot enjoyed all of the pageantry. He also like the Mellow Mushroom Pizza!
Saturday, Elliot got to go to his first someone else’s birthday party. The theme was Pirates and Princesses, so Logan and I dressed him accordingly. It was rather difficult to get him to keep the hat on his head.
Gingy and Grandpa came up that night in preparation for our trip to Washington D.C. Logan, Elliot, and I dressed up for dinner, thinking that we would be going to the Boo at the Zoo afterwards. Unfortunately, we missed the Boo (boohoo?) but we still enjoyed dinner at Calhoun’s.
The next morning, Gingy, Grandpa, Elliot, and I began our drive to D.C. Elliot handled the drive well, needing only a couple of comfort stops.
I had to go to a class all week, but Elliot enjoyed the sites of D.C. and the surrounding area with his grandparents.
On Monday, they went to Mt. Vernon, home of George Washington.
On Tuesday, they went to Alexandria. Elliot really liked the planes!
On Wednesday, they went to Fort Frederick, where Elliot saw a choo choo and a canon!
On Thursday, the government reopened, but Elliot and grandparents decided to stay in the Silver Spring area with mommy! They found a playground in the morning and I got to go eat lunch with them at a little deli! Then Elliot took a huge nap to make up for all the naps he missed this week.
On Friday, Elliot, Gingy, and Grandpa finally got to go see the monuments of D.C. Elliot begins with a sit in at the front of the White House.
And what trip to Washington would be complete without a stop at Ben and Jerry’s in the Old Post Office Building?
The day was made complete with a brief tour of the Natural History Museum.
Saturday morning, Gingy and Grandpa bravely took Elliot on his first flight back to Knoxville. I was glad that they could come with me to D.C. It was nice to be able to spend some quality time with the boy in the evenings and I know they enjoyed taking him to see all the sights during the day!
Post Pics Plz!
For a change of pace, this week I have been working a lot… Here are some pictures of the boy taken by his awesome father, auntie, and Slappy!
Horsing around in the camp ground general store with Auntie Linzy!
Elliot tries out his cousin’s Charlotte Olivia’s toys!
Me: “You gave him a Starbucks?!”
Logan: “I still drink from a regular stein, but Elliot has a Frankenstein!”
Elliot driving Slappy’s car! I don’t think he can lock us out of this one, but he is pretty tricky!
Logan and Elliot came to visit me at work today for lunch in the hospital cafeteria! I was so glad to see them. Elliot mostly ran around and made friends while Logan and I ate. We got him a corn dog, but I ended up eating it. I was sad to see them go. I miss them both so much. I wish things were different and I lived in a magical world where there were no bills to pay and I could just play with the boy all the time… or even some of the time. That would be nice too.
Happy 16 months, buddly!
Here are some awesome things you can do!

We had a nice weekend with Gingy and Grandpa! Elliot and Logan took Gingy and Grandpa to the Bush’s Beans place on Friday.
Elliot tried to do a little driving the next day…
We went to King Tut’s Grill for lunch. Elliot got a hat. Logan showed him how to wear it!
Update Blog, check!
It has been on my to do list, but this month has been kind of a blur. I just finished two weeks of night float and then another week of evening shift in the ER. Time has been rather a precious commodity. We did manage to go to the zoo during the morning of my night off. Elliot liked the Lego room! They had a neat exhibit where you go into a netted room with over 300 budgies. They also had an Elliot sized nest!
Anyways, Logan and Elliot have been working on some things while I have been away. Yesterday, to my surprise, Elliot could actually put the pieces of his board puzzle back in the right spots with only a little help with positioning. He even said “Kitty!” when he was holding the cat piece. Also, although he still doesn’t like to nap or go to bed, I can’t really remember the last time he has woken up in the middle of the night. So that’s pretty awesome!
Yesterday, Logan got out Rockband and gave Elliot a mircophone, which he help in his mouth for the most part but occasionally he would sing along! It was adorable! Elliot also gave Logan a black eye, which isn’t really funny but it seems like a memory worth recording. On the other hand, Logan got Elliot some fun T-shirts!
Last weekend we went to my parent’s house for Marm’s birthday and to give me an opportunity to adjust my circadian rhythm.
Elliot helped Marm blow out her candles!
He also really enjoyed her birthday card from Betty Lynn which had a Hawaiian girl who actually spun in a grass shirt! Seriously, after swimming at Craig and Suzanne’s Saturday evening, Elliot and I came back and watched this girl in the card spin for like 15 minutes while he settled down for bed. It was pretty mesmerizing. And speaking of the pool, Elliot went off the diving board… well, more like was handed to me swimming with a floaty by Logan or Tom from the diving board. He thought it was pretty neat, shooting “Two go!” as he was handed off! He was also pretty impressed by Tom and Logan’s diving skills.
We stopped by to visit Nell and Mosley. Elliot and I played with the yard sticks. Daddy is so tall, it took two yard sticks to measure him!
We also played with a neat bell.
Then we made a stop at the Tullahoma caboose. Elliot was enthralled! We are going to have to book that boy a train ride someday soon!
Happy belated 14 months!
Elliot had is first GI bug for his 14 month b-day. So, I didn’t get any pictures of him. He is on the upswing now (as well as Gingy, Logan, and me). Here he is doing some tire shopping for mommy!
Adventures in Nashville
Elliot and I are spending some time in Nashville. I am doing some work at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and Elliot is enjoying the company of his Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe! We got here on Sunday and Mary and I took him to their neighborhood pool, where he ran around in the kiddie pool and played on the steps of the big pool. He would even put his face in the water, but I think he was trying to drink it. He especially liked me to swing him around in the water of the kiddie pool. He also liked climbing on the chairs around the pool…
Monday afternoon, my mom came up. We all went to a playground that Mary had taken him to earlier in the day. She wanted to show off all of the equipment that he could already play on quite well. She encouraged me not to help him, so I just spotted.
Gingy took care of Elliot on Tuesday during the day.
That evening, my friend Jessica came up and finally got to meet the boy! Unfortunately, he was not at his best as he was bringing in a brand new tooth (I think his right upper premolar although he won’t let me get a great look at it…) Nevertheless, when we took him back to the playground, he was willing to ignore the discomfort and do some playing!
The next day, Gingy and Mary took him to Belk…
They also got him some chicken nuggets and ketchup for lunch (yum yum!)
Today, he hung out with Gingy. They took a quick trip to Murfreesboro and later came back and horsed around on Mary’s couch.
Here’s a cute story. This evening when I was giving him a bath, I was hiding by the tub saying “Where’s Mommy?” so that I could jump out and say “Here she is! Peekaboo!” and make him laugh. He was playing with some cups, and somehow I was totally surprised when he splashed water on me from the cup as I jumped out to surprise him!
Also, he can say “Bye Joe” on request, which is quite adorable!
Per Request, an update!
Elliot got his seventh tooth today, which goes a long way to explain some fussiness over the past few days! He will let you say it if you smile really big at him and say “Cheese!”
Elliot has gotten to spend a lot of time with his Aunt Lisa and Cousins Hunter and Kyra recently.
(We are having a debate about whether or not his outfit is, in fact, pajamas.)
He got to go to field day last week,
and to Kyra’s class party yesterday!

Recently, Elliot likes Thomas the Tank Engine and Cars, the Pixar movie. He has switched from saying “Good” to “Go Go!” He will also say “Choo Choo!”
Here he is watching TV in his new nap mat!
Last Friday we surprised Gingy! Tom was going to meet her in Crossville, so Logan, Elliot, and I tagged along too! She was so excited! We all went to Cracker Barrel to eat and play around the gift shop.
On Saturday, Elliot, Logan, and I went out for Hibachi. Elliot tried sushi and, with his mommy holding his shoulder, he didn’t even cry when the chef made a big fire!
On Sunday we went to a cook-out at Logan’s parent’s house. Elliot’s Gam Gam and Slappy got him a new slide! So exciting! We are looking forward to staying at their new Camp Ground soon!
On Mother’s Day, we went to the Apple Barn restaurant with Logan’s family. Lisa took this picture of us eating some delicious apple pie ice cream! Yummy!
I got a bead on my bracelet for Elliot’s birthday (a dump truck, his favorite present) and Logan and I ordered a few more beads for holidays that we had missed (a tooth, for Christmas, and a stethoscope, for Valentine’s Day). I also had these made for me, Gam Gam, and Gingy.
My mother had silhouettes made of me and my brothers when we were babies. I contacted the same artist and she made his likeness from the above picture. Outstanding!
Motherboy
I apologize for the lack of posting. Things have started to finally settle down into a routine. Elliot only wakes up in the middle of the night maybe once or twice a week now. I’m still working a lot, but things are generally going well. It’s starting to make me think that a second baby might actually be doable (but not quite yet 😉 ).
Anyways, I am working tonight (Friday night) due to some weird stipulations in the resident work hours. So, I got Friday during the day off. Logan had court, and I got to spend the whole day caring for Elliot more or less alone. This is a surprisingly rare occurrence, and I was pretty excited to treat the boy to an outing with his dear old mum.
We kissed daddy goodbye in the morning, got breakfast and a bath. We set out for the Fort Sanders area. Logan called while we were on the road and told us his aunt was in the hospital, so we made a brief stop to check on her.
Elliot climbed around the playground. He especially liked the slide. An elementary class was having their field trip there and Elliot enjoyed watching them.
Then we wandered over to World’s Fair Park to play in the fountain. I had brought Elliot a swim diaper and a change of clothes. What I had not brought was a change of clothes for me!
We stopped by the Sunsphere, where I learned that Elliot is a bit terrified by heights. He did not want to stand near the edge of the overlook by himself at all!
We found this structure in front of the convention center.
We stopped by the Chocolate factory on our way back to the car and got some cheesecake bites, which Elliot liked. We drove towards home but stopped at Wash Me Coin Laundry when we saw Slappy’s truck. Slappy joined us for some Mexican food! Then Elliot and I stopped off at Walmart to get my car worked on and pick up a few things. Elliot liked puching the cart and playing with the balls.
We got home at 2 and both went down for a nap for a couple of hours. All in all, a successful mother/son day!
